What We Do
Harbor of Hope is a drug rehabilitation center that provides a positive, structured program to its residents. The Harbor acts as a bridge between the Iowa Department of Corrections and the community. Most admitted residents volunteer to enter the program through the coordination of the Iowa Drug Court.
The cost savings to the state to house the residents are substantial; the daily cost to keep an inmate in prison is $74, rehabilitation at the Harbor cost $25 a day.
The 2007 success rate of rehabilitation is 65%.
The Harbor believes there are four keys to rehabilitation:
The average stay at the Harbor of Hope is 19 months.
After successfully completing the program, residents will be clean and sober and obtain permanent employment and housing. These goals lead the graduate to effectively integrate back into his community.
